The American Longevity Assn., based in Beverly Hills, has received a federal contract to develop a nationwide nonprofit organization to provide information on improving physical and mental well-being.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded the contract for the Lifestyle Institute for Vitality and Excellence (LIVE). The institute will have its headquarters in Los Angeles, according to Dr. Robert Morin, president of the longevity association.

LIVE will use computers to process individual information, medical data and community resources. Program participants will be able to examine the direct relationship between their choice of life style and the risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, infectious diseases, suicide and accidents, officials said.

LIVE will develop model programs to help individuals assess their attitudes toward life, themselves and others. Model programs will be developed for children, seniors, families and work sites.

LIVE will serve as a clearinghouse of information for the media, government agencies, the longevity association newsletter, insurance firms and other private sources.
