President Reagan appealed to Danish Prime Minister Poul Schlueter today to help strengthen Western defenses in the pursuit of “a century of peace,” saying the goal “will not be secured by wishful thinking or public relations campaigns.”

Schlueter, making a state visit to the White House, responded with a wish that the forthcoming summit meeting between Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev “will lead to the beginning of a more constructive East-West relationship that will benefit the world.”
