The National League announced that Sunday’s Cincinnati-Chicago game--in which Pete Rose tied Ty Cobb’s hit record--will stand as a legally tied game, and Rose’s hits will count even though the game was not completed.

If the outcome of the contest affects a division championship, the teams will play another game at the end of the season, a National League spokeswoman said.

The game, interrupted by rain for two hours and three minutes, was halted by darkness in the ninth inning with the score tied, 5-5. Chicago’s Wrigley Field is the only major league stadium without lights.

Since it was the last game between the clubs this year, it was an official game and all statistics count according to National League Rule 4.1 (c), the league said.
