The city has paid $1.3 million for a former church site where they plan to build housing for senior citizens. While the size of the project has not been determined, city spokesman Carol Cooley said the First Baptist Church at 13001 La Mirada Blvd. probably will be razed to make way for the housing complex.

One proposal, by a Portland-based development firm, calls for a three-story, 165-unit complex to be built on the 3.8-acre site. It would include studio apartments as well as one- and two-bedroom units. According to the proposal by Brim & Associates Inc., monthly rents would average about $913 and include two to three meals a day, transportation, utilities, housekeeping and some recreation activities. About 30 units would offer special nursing care.

Cooley said the council will review several proposals for the site before deciding who will build the project.
