‘Mini-Markets’

Share

The L.A. City Council is considering an ordinance to ban businesses from selling both gasoline and alcohol. Council members Joel Wachs and Joan Milke Flores think that the existence of “mini-markets” that sell these two products sends a message to the public that it’s OK to drink and drive.

This is the same mentality that says liquor stores cause crime, pornography causes rape, and guns kill people. Hogwash. Everyone knows it is against the law to drink and drive. Some people just don’t care and prohibiting a businessperson from selling a product will not solve anything.

Our council members should be commended for their intent--to cut down on the number of alcohol-related traffic accidents--but the end does not justify the means.
