Deputy Shoots Himself in Leg
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy, helping to serve a narcotics search warrant in the Walnut Park area early today, accidentally shot himself in the leg while holstering his semi-automatic pistol, authorities said.
Deputy Steven Maggiora, 34, a 12-year veteran assigned to the department’s special enforcement bureau, was listed in stable condition at Martin Luther King Hospital, where he was to undergo surgery. There were no other injuries in the otherwise peaceful delivery of the warrant at a private residence on California Street in the unincorporated southeastern Los Angeles County area, authorities said. Deputies seized an undisclosed quantity of cocaine and firearms during the raid and several persons were detained.
