Stunt pilot Art Scholl, whose aerobatic biplane crashed into the sea Monday, was given up for dead today as the U.S. Coast Guard abandoned its search for the famed aviator. Scholl, 53, of Rialto, who was considered one of the top air show fliers of his time, was filming for the movie “Top Gun” when his Pitts special plunged into 600 feet of water near Encinitas.
