‘Street Kids’ Label Called Unfair

Share

In response to your article about the Guardian Angels (San Gabriel Valley section, Aug. 22), I take exception to the paragraph near the end (quoting a resident) referring to some members as “tough street kids.”

Our youngest son is a Guardian Angel and he is from a conservative San Gabriel family. We have five children, three adopted and two born to us, and it just happens to be an interracial family. Our son is not a tough street kid and our entire family and all our friends are very proud of his involvement in trying to help other people. These kids give their time; they spend money they earn at work to buy their T-shirt, red beret, flashlight and handcuffs that they are required to have as a Guardian Angel.

Too bad there aren’t more kids in our area who are more interested in helping others rather than kicking back and doing nothing.
