An Upland man who allegedly conned an elderly woman out of her life’s savings of nearly $150,000 was arrested Monday, ending an 18-month investigation into the incident, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.

Kenneth Huchinson, 39, was taken into custody at the West Valley Municipal Court building in Ontario, where he was scheduled to appear before a San Bernardino County judge on an unrelated matter, Deputy Rick Adams said.

The arrest was made after an investigation into an incident last year involving an 87-year-old San Dimas woman, Adams said.

The woman told authorities that she turned over $147,000 to Hutchinson, who said he would invest the money for her, Adams said.

Hutchinson allegedly took the money and disappeared rather than following through on his investment promise, the deputy said.

Hutchinson was booked for investigation of two felony counts of grand theft and illegal diversion of funds. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, Adams said.
