An elderly couple were found bludgeoned to death in their West Hollywood apartment early today, 30 minutes after a young man flagged down a Los Angeles police car and told the patrol officers he had just murdered two people, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

The victims were identified as Harry and Freda Abramowitz of 1258 N. Sweetzer Ave. He was 75. She was 60.

Deputy Lynda Edmonds said Charles First Jr., 25, was booked on suspicion of two counts of murder.

Edmonds said First approached a Los Angeles Police Department patrol car at 1st and Hill Streets at 3:15 a.m. and told the officers that he had murdered a couple in West Hollywood. The officers informed deputies, who checked the address First had given and found the bodies in Apartment 9 at the Sweetzer Avenue address.

No motive has been established, Edmonds said, but the apartment had been ransacked. She said there was no indication of whether a weapon was found.
