California Highway Patrol officers chased a car from Palm Springs to Los Angeles at speeds up to 110 m.p.h. and finally managed to arrest the teen-age driver and his four passengers when they stopped for gas in the Lincoln Heights area. A CHP spokesman said the pursuit began when the car was spotted moving at high speed on California 111 and continued on Interstate 10 until the driver turned his lights off in an apparent attempt to elude pursuit just before he got off the freeway in Boyle Heights. The driver and passengers, who were not identified because they are under 17, were arrested without incident at a service station. They were booked on suspicion of reckless driving and attempting to evade arrest--to which officers added suspicion of auto theft when it was discovered that the car’s ignition had been hot-wired.
