Our item on the seemingly-shelved Pia Zadora film, “When the Rain Begins to Fall” (formerly “Voyage of the Rock Aliens”) brought a response from Gary D. Tucker, assistant director of the Seattle International Film Festival:

“A bizarre blend of ‘Beach Blanket Bingo’ and ‘Xanadu,’ the film was part of our ‘Desperately Seeking Shock’ midnight series during the opening weekend of our festival (in May).

“The screening was a big hit with the capacity audience, which voted overwhelmingly for a repeat performance. I should point out that it was competing against ‘The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak.’ We even had 20 people enter our Pia Zadora look-alike contest. Pia has the potential for becoming the campiest cult musical star since Dr. Frank N. Furter.”
