Meatpackers to Picket Stadium

About 1,000 meatpackers handling “Dodger Dogs” and other Farmer John products walked off the job early today and planned to set up picket lines at grocery markets and Dodger Stadium, a union spokesman said. Contract negotiations between the company and Local 274 of the United Food and Commercial Workers broke down last week. The dispute centers on proposed changes in medical and pension plans as well as the seniority system.
