The San Diego Chargers signed running back Gary Anderson, who played for the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League the past three seasons, to a four-year contract worth $2 million.

Anderson, 24, was a first-round pick of the Chargers in the 1983 National Football League draft, but signed instead with the USFL, where he rushed for more than 1,000 yards in two of his three seasons.

The Chargers bought out the USFL’s contract with Anderson for $500,000, according to Alex Spanos, Charger owner.
