All-American tailback Keith Byars, who has missed Ohio State’s first three games with a broken bone in his right foot, had the cast removed and will begin intensive therapy immediately so he can begin playing as soon as possible.

Byars will not play in the Buckeyes’ Big Ten opener Saturday against Illinois. Byars injured the foot in practice Sept. 2 and had the cast taken off each of the last two Mondays, only to have doctors decide to put a new cast on and let the injury heal more.
