Rancho Santiago Defeats Saddleback, 12-7

Rancho Santiago College defeated Saddleback, 12-7, in a nonconference water polo match at Saddleback.

The Dons were led by Charles Sommer, Marc Young and Greg LaPointe who each scored three goals. Sommer, Young, LePointe and Darin Haskins and Nick Toscas scored in the pivotal fourth quarter when the Dons outscored the Gauchos, 5-1.

Saddleback’s Jack Ryan led all scorers with four goals.

In other nonconference action:

Cypress 13, Citrus 12 (sudden death)--Sophomore hole man Brent Parenteau scored the Chargers’ last four goals, including the game-winner in sudden death, to lead Cypress. The match was tied, 9-9, at the end of regulation. Parenteau scored with 40 seconds left in the second overtime period to tie it, 12-12, to force the sudden death. The loss snapped Citrus’ 11-match winning streak.

Parenteau led all scorers with four goals. Kyle Lindo and Kevin McKee had three goals each for the Chargers (7-6-1).
