South Pasadena
John Bayless has been appointed assistant superintendent of the South Pasadena Unified School District, filling the vacancy created when Warren Newman was promoted to superintendent. Bayless, 34, will assume his new post Oct. 1. He has been an elementary school principal in Turlock, Calif., since 1980, Newman said. Newman replaced Thomas K. Brierly, who resigned to take a position with another school system. Newman had been assistant superintendent for instructional services before his promotion.
