Dr. Leonard Saks of Irvine felt that he might as well have some fun when his office phone number was routinely given to Directory Assistance callers by the computerized information operator as that of Saks of Irvine, a haircutting, manicure and pedicure business. “People would call and ask if I gave manicures,” said Saks, a family medicine practitioner who answered his own phone when he was temporarily without a receptionist, “and I would tell them yes, but I was very expensive.”
