A total of 30.2 million $1 state lottery tickets were sold during the gambling game’s first 36 hours, bringing total revenues far in excess of the previous record for the entire first week of play in any other lottery, officials said. John Schade, a lottery spokesman, said the previous record of $19.2 million was set in the first week of New York state’s lottery. “We’re very happy with the sales and the continued growth of the sales,” Schade said. During the first 36 hours of play in California, winners submitted 515 claims for $5,000 prizes.
