Texas said it will end a snail quarantine.
The state’s Department of Agriculture said the emergency measure imposed Sept. 9 will be allowed to lapse while it continues studying possible imposition of a permanent ban against the European brown garden snail, which is already established in Texas. California growers of ornamental plants--a $100-million business--strongly opposed the temporary quarantine in the absence of an eradication program, which Texas is considering.
