Valley Marathon Canceled After Sponsor Pulls Out
The inaugural San Fernando Valley Marathon, scheduled for next month, has been canceled, race director Bill Lovelace said Thursday.
Lovelace said the event was put in jeopardy when its major sponsor, Prince Manufacturing Co. of Princeton, N.J., decided to pull out. He said an alternate sponsor could not be found to provide the majority of the $40,000 budget.
The race, which was being billed as the first marathon run completely in the Valley, was scheduled for Nov. 17.
Lovelace said that Basin Blues, an Encino-based running club that was organizing the marathon, plans to try again next year.
