Police are seeking a man believed to be responsible for the rapes of seven elderly women since May, including a 95-year-old woman who was attacked in her East San Diego home Wednesday.

All the assaults have occurred during daylight hours in the eastern portion of the city south of Interstate 8, said San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson. In all but one case, the victims have opened their doors to the intruder without inquiring who he was, Robinson added.

The latest victim was treated at a hospital but was not seriously injured. Police are hopeful that she can provide a more complete description of the assailant than earlier victims did.

One of the victims died of a stroke after she was raped, and authorities say her death may be linked to the attack.

Wednesday’s victim, like some of the other women, was robbed of a small amount of money, but police do not believe robbery was the primary motive in the crimes, Robinson said.

The assailant is described as a black man in his 20s, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, and 150 to 165 pounds.
