Kings Obtain Guay in Trade With Flyers

The Kings traded right wing Steve Seguin to the Philadelphia Flyers for right wing Paul Guay Friday.

There may also be future considerations involved, depending on whether Guay and Seguin remain in the National Hockey League.

Guay will play in tonight’s game against the New York Islanders at the Forum at 7:30. It will be the season opener for the Islanders. The Kings lost their season opener to Vancouver, 6-5, Thursday night.

Guay, 5-11 and 190 pounds, played for the 1984 U.S. Olympic team and spent most of last season in the minors. He scored 23 goals and had 30 assists in 74 games at Hershey, Pa., and scored 2 goals and 7 assists in 9 games with the Flyers.

“He will be more of a two-way hockey player,” King General Manager Rogie Vachon said. “He’s good in the corners. . . . He’s a pretty rugged kid. He’s going to play tomorrow night. We want to find out right away if he can play.”

Seguin spent most of last season playing with New Haven, Conn., where he scored 18 goals and had 7 assists in 58 games. He didn’t score in five games with the Kings last season.
