Taft’s Monty Gilbreath ran 45 yards for a touchdown with 1:59 left in the first quarter to move his team into a 13-0 lead. . . .Gilbreath caught a 56-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ray Daniels with six minutes left in the first period to finish a 60-yard drive by the Toreadors. . . .Franklin’s Bert Mercado returned a punt 92 yards for a Panther touchdown with 3:30 left in the third quarter. . . .Taft’s John Thompson recovered a fumbled punt return in the third period to set up an eight-yard touchdown run by Daniels.

Quarterback Ray Daniels (T) rushed for 79 yards on 10 carries, scoring twice. Monty Gilbreath (T) carried four times for 57 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 77 yards, scoring on a 56-yard pass play. Kevin Wolfe (T) rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries. Middle linebacker Danny Long (F) sacked Daniels twice. Waverly Hankston (T) rushed for only eight yards in thegame, but managed to get into the end zone.
