Deadline Near for Utility Tax Break
Deadline for applying to be exempted next year from the city’s 2.75% tax on telephone, electricity and natural gas bills is Oct. 31, announced Chris Jeffers, manager of the city support services division.
The exemption is available to low-income families and to people certified by the Social Security Administration to receive Supplemental Security Income payments to the aged, disabled and blind. Family income limits for the exemption are $8,508 a year for two people and $10,692 for three or more. New applications and renewal requests may be submitted to the city supports services division at City Hall.
