FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : The Master’s Ends Losing Streak With 4-0 Win Over Christ College

The Master’s College of Newhall ended a nine-game losing streak by defeating Christ College, 4-0, in a nonleague soccer game Wednesday.

Rick Marshall and Darin Johnston both scored to give The Master’s a 2-0 lead at halftime. Tim Juhnke scored 12 minutes into the second half, and Kurt Lackore fired the last goal with 30 seconds remaining in the game.

Christ College had opportunities to score, but defensive play by The Master’s goalie Jeremy Cook preserved the shutout. Cook had 15 blocked shots.

The Master’s is now 1-9 overall and 0-5 in NAIA District III. League play resumes Saturday when The Master’s visits Cal Lutheran.

North Hollywood’s cross-country team placed runners in the top five positions Wednesday to defeat Polytechnic, 22-46.

Christopher Deppew placed first with a time of 16:56. He was followed by Chris Todd, 17:12, and Carlos Laura, 17:27.

Sylmar ran past Grant for a 15-45 cross country win.

Humberto Quintana came in first for the Spartans with a time of 16:26. Robert Hernandez was second at 17:18, followed by Steve Graham in third at 17:50.

The top runner for Grant was Alberto Lazaro, who placed seventh with a time of 18:55.
