Inglewood Trustee’s Trial Delayed
Inglewood school board member Caroline Coleman’s trial on felony embezzlement charges, scheduled to begin last week, was postponed until later this month because her attorney has a schedule conflict.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Sam Bubrick rescheduled the trial for Oct. 28, but both the defending and prosecuting attorneys said the case might be tried much later because of the Superior Court’s criminal case backlog.
No Attendance Record
Coleman, 48, is accused of filing more than $1,200 in false expense reports for school board funds she received to attend an educational conference in New Orleans in November, 1983.
Conference officials have no record of Coleman’s attendance or registration.
Coleman pleaded innocent at her arraignment in June.
If convicted of the felony, Coleman could face up to three years in prison and would lose her school board seat.
She also would be barred from holding public office in the future.
