Hermosa Beach : City to Subsidize Bus Passes

Share

The Hermosa Beach City Council has voted to begin subsidizing monthly bus passes in late November for high school students, senior citizens and the disabled. The new passes will cost $4--the rate that students, senior citizens and the disabled had been paying before July 1, when the Southern California Rapid Transit District raised monthly bus passes to $12 for students and $7 for the elderly and handicapped.

The city program, which is expected to cost $20,192 a year, will be funded by county sales tax money set aside for transportation.

In other action, the City Council voted unanimously in closed session to grant a 10% pay raise to City Manager Gregory Meyer, retroactive to Oct. 1, Mayor Jack Wood announced Tuesday. Meyer’s salary, which will be $57,444 a year, is reviewed each October by the City Council.
