Los Angeles police were searching Thursday for a 17-year-old baby sitter and the 9-year-old girl with whom she allegedly ran away.

The baby sitter, Olga Colin of East Los Angeles, fled two weeks ago from the county’s MacLaren Children’s Center in El Monte, where she was being held pending a hearing as a chronic runaway who had abducted children, Officer Sergio Diaz said.

The teen-ager had apparently befriended the missing child’s mother, Merilyn Wright, and had been taken to her Highland Park home, where she worked as a baby sitter, Northeast Division Detective Louis Gallegos said.

On Wednesday, Wright left the teen-ager with Misty Marie Canchola, 9, and the girl’s brother, 5. When Wright returned from work, she found the two girls gone and the little boy left unattended, Gallegos said.

Misty Marie was described as four-feet tall, weighing 68 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing lavender pants, a red Mickey Mouse shirt and white dress shoes.

Colin was described as 5-feet, 1-inch tall, 135 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a red and black dress with white shoes.
