Alexis Arguello, starting a comeback that he hopes will make him the first boxer to win four titles, will fight Pat Jefferson of Eugene, Ore., in a 10-round junior-welterweight bout tonight at Anchorage, Alaska. It will be Arguello’s first fight since he was stopped by Aaron Pryor in September 1983.

During the last two years, the former title-holder in the featherweight, junior-lightweight and lightweight divisions has gone through cocaine abuse, a near divorce and financial problems.

Arguello, 33, has a 78-6 record with 63 knockouots. He began training for a comeback four months ago in New Hampshire, where his manager, Bill Miller, lives.

Jefferson, 28, has a 25-5 record that includes 10 KOs. He was a late replacement for Californian Andy Nance, who withdrew after suffering a cut in sparring.
