Randy Bass’ hit in his only at-bat in the final game this season powered the former major leaguer to the triple crown of Japan’s Central League. Bass, who last played in the majors with the Texas Rangers three years ago, wrapped up the 130-game season with an average of .350, 54 home runs and 134 runs-batted in. His homer total was one short of Japan’s pro baseball record set by Sadaharu Oh, who now manages the Yomiuri Giants of Tokyo.
