Issue With Sutton

Share

One Sept. 29 Horace Sutton wrote about La Napoule Hotel near Cannes. I had just returned from a three-week stay in and around that area in the South of France, and I have to take issue with Sutton over his comments on Napoule. It is not “10 minutes from the yachts of Cannes.” I had occasion to drive from that hotel to Cannes and passed the hotel at 5 p.m. After fighting the traffic in Cannes I finally got off the main road and went up into the hills, and reached my destination in the center of Cannes at 6:15 p.m., some 75 minutes from Loews’ hotel.

He also says that the Napoule “is also the locale of the last hotel in France to be built on the beach.” I suspect the reason for this is that the hotel is an absolute eyesore and totally out of character with the Provencale architecture which proliferates the area.

And don’t count on getting to Nice airport in 20 minutes under any circumstances.
