One apartment of a two-story apartment building in Normal Heights was gutted Sunday morning by a fire of unknown origin that for a time trapped two people in their second-story apartment, a fire department spokesman said.

The remaining three apartments in the building on the 4600 block of East Mountain View Drive suffered heat and smoke damage from the blaze. Two unidentified occupants of the building were forced to jump from the second story onto a van to escape the heat and flames, the spokesman said.

In addition, two firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the fire. The Metro Arson Strike Team is investigating the cause of the blaze.
