200 Marijuana Plants Found Above Encino

Los Angeles police arrested three men Friday and later confiscated more than 200 marijuana plants valued at $200,000 in a raid at a well-hidden plant-cultivation operation in the hills above Encino, police said.

The early-morning raiders in the field off Mulholland Drive found the plants protected by netting and rodent traps, and watered by an elaborate irrigation system, Lt. Martin Pomeroy said.

The plants, accessible only to off-road vehicles, could not be seen from the air because of dense vegetation, Pomeroy said.

Police arrested the three earlier at a Canoga Park residence where they found drying screens, heat lamps and equipment to process and pack raw marijuana, Pomeroy said. Arrested on suspicion of selling marijuana were Peter J. Lang, 23, Patrick F. Lang, 22, and Richard Donak, 22.

Pomeroy said an informer tipped police off to the marijuana field.
