SACRAMENTO — The average Californian pays $3,012 a year in federal taxes for the 10th highest share among taxpayers in the 50 states, the California Taxpayers Assn. reported.
Alaska has the highest per capita share of the federal tax load, with $4,340, compared with the national average of $2,738, a Cal-Tax research bulletin said.
Researchers found that Californians pay $1.15 in federal taxes for each $1 of federal grant-in-aid money received by governmental agencies in the state. Consequently, California has the 10th worst ratio of federal tax burden to grant funding among the 50 states, the report said.
