Pavin Is 3 Ahead; Japan Leads U.S.
Ex-UCLA star Corey Pavin shot the day’s best score, a five-under-par 67, for a three-round total of 205 to take a three-stroke lead in the $203,330 ’85 ABC Cup Japan-U.S. golf matches at Kawanishi, Japan.
In the nine-man team event, the Japanese recorded a 649 for a three-round total of 1,915, stretching its lead to 12 strokes over the U.S. team, captained by Hale Irwin. The Americans had a 657 for 1927.
Pavin had an eagle on the 416-yard, par-four seventh hole. He also had five birdies and two bogeys over the 6,822-yard Sport Shinko Country Club course.
