Pete Rose of the Cincinnati Reds was voted manager of the year by the United Press International.

Rose, in his first full season as player-manager of the Reds, edged Whitey Herzog of the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-10, in balloting conducted among 26 UPI baseball correspondents.

Tom Lasorda of the Dodgers picked up two votes, and New York’s Dave Johnson and Pittsburgh’s Chuck Tanner each got one vote.
