This city will celebrate its 25th anniversary this weekend, beginning with a carnival and parade and culminating with a dinner Sunday at the Rio Hondo Country Club in Downey.

Events will start at 5 p.m. Friday, with the carnival at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Elizabeth Street. It will continue through the weekend.

At 9 a.m. Saturday Lugo Park, built this year, will be dedicated. The parade will follow from 10 a.m. to noon, forming at Live Oak Street and Atlantic Avenue and ending at Cudahy Park. There also will be a petting zoo with about 50 animals.

Assemblywoman Teresa P. Hughes (D-Los Angeles) will be in the parade, as well as the Park Avenue School winners of the city-sponsored anniversary poster contest. Maynard Law, director of community services, said the parade will include three clown groups, 20 bands, a Marine Corps drill team and a mariachi band.

From noon to 4 p.m., there will be booths for food and drinks set up at the park for an anniversary celebration.

The dinner, to be served Sunday at the Rio Hondo Country Club, 10627 Old River School Road, Downey, costs $15 a person. Although the deadline for reservations has passed, Esmer Bryant, anniversary dinner chairman, said there may still be seating available for those who want to pay at the door. Cocktails will be at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7. Further information may be obtained at Cudahy City Hall, 5220 Santa Ana St.
