Government’s Sanctuary Case

Share

The so-called “Sanctuary Case” is more than a contest between the Immigration and Naturalization Service and religious lay workers. It must include all horse race tracks that hire illegal aliens and then provide living quarters. Include the illegal live-in housemaids in posh Beverly Hills, the coyotes (smugglers) who provide way houses for their charges, or countless rapacious employers paying less than a minimum wage to aliens to the exclusion of American unemployed.

Sanctuary in the name of compassion allows any group to beckon an unlimited number of refugees, including the oppressed and starving, without consideration that this nation cannot absorb the millions hammering on our gates for admittance.

If in the present case the so-called refugees are fleeing the hostilities of war-torn Central America, then why do they not settle in Mexico where there are common customs and language? It is obvious their flight is to an economic mecca, America.

It is wrong for The Times to suggest the refugees be given sanctuary until turmoil in their homeland ends. The interim stay of these refugees allows them to freely roam about, create families and then disappear into the fabric of American life.

Rather, if the courts determine America must become a sanctuary then let such a place be established in Alaska.
