A. M. McCausland, Obstetrician, Dies

Dr. Alfred Merrill McCausland, a longtime obstetrician and professor of medicine, died Thursday at his Los Angeles home after a long illness. He was 79.

Before his retirement in 1977, McCausland served on the staffs of the Hospital of the Good Samaritan and County-USC Medical Center. He was also a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at USC.

Born in Eyota, Minn., on Jan. 30, 1906, McCausland received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Minnesota and came to Los Angeles in 1935.

McCausland and his wife, Dr. Frances Holmes McCausland, also an obstetrician, worked together in offices in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills.

He is survived by his wife; two children, Dr. Alice McKittrick of Washington, and Dr. Arthur McCausland of Sacramento; four grandchildren and two brothers, Kenneth M. McCausland of Long Beach and Vance McCausland of Pittsburgh.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn Memorial-Park, Glendale.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the University of California Regents for research on Parkinson’s disease at UCLA Medical School’s department of neurology.
