Top-seeded John McEnroe overpowered Sweden’s new tennis hopeful, Peter Lundgren, Friday to join three other Swedes in the semifinals of the $375,000 Stockholm Open tournament.

The world’s No. 2 player hammered in 11 aces to snap the 20-year-old Lundgren’s 15-match winning streak with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at Stockholm.

“I felt it was the best I’ve played in this tournament so far. I concentrated pretty well and hit the ball well,” McEnroe said after finishing off Lundgren in less than an hour.

McEnroe will try to snap another streak today when he takes on third-seeded Stefan Edberg in the semifinals.

Edberg, ranked No. 6 in the world after winning two of his last three Grand Prix tournaments, beat Sergio Casal of Spain, 6-4, 6-1, for his 13th consecutive victory.

Fifth-seeded Anders Jarryd will play seventh-seeded Joakim Nystrom in the other semifinal. Jarryd beat Switzerland’s Jakob Hlasek, 6-2, 6-0, and Nystrom held off Yannick Noah of France, 6-2, 7-5.

McEnroe showed his temper only once, during the first game of the second set, turning to the audience and telling some fans, “Shut up. If you want to have a conversation, do it outside.”

At Largo, Fla., Gabriela Sabatini of Argentina defeated Pam Casale, 6-0, 6-1 to reach the semifinals of a $150,000 women’s tournament. Also advancing were Anne White, Carling Bassett and Stephanie Rehe.

White beat Lisa Bonder, 6-2, 6-4; Bassett defeated Grace Kim, 6-2, 7-5, and Rehe eliminated defending champion Michelle Torres, 6-1, 6-2.
