In a match between the top two teams in Division I women’s volleyball, No. 1 Stanford beat UCLA for the second time this season Friday night at UCLA. The scores were 15-11, 15-12, 15-5.

The loss, before an overflow crowd of more than 2,000, was the first in 17 matches for the Bruins at John Wooden Center since it opened three years ago.

Stanford was paced by Nancy Reno, who had 17 kills; All-American Kim Oden, who had 15 kills, and Wendi Rush, who performed brilliantly.

Oden said the match was tougher than the score would indicate. “They played real well in spots . . . but we wanted to win this one,” she said.

UCLA was led by Liz Masakayan, who had 18 kills, 4 blocks and 1 assist.

The Cardinal raised its record to 19-1, while UCLA dropped to 22-3.
