Georgia Tech has been ranked No. 1 in the The Associated Press preseason college basketball poll.
The Yellowjackets got 28 first-place votes and 1,192 points from the nationwide panel of 63 sportswriters and broadcasters, edging out North Carolina for the top spot. In third place went to Michigan, one of two Big Ten teams in the top ten. The Tar Heels got 13 first-place votes and 1,148 points. Michigan had 13 first-place votes and 1,141 points.
The rest of the top 20: 4. Syracuse, 5. Kansas, 6. Duke, 7. Illinois, 8. Georgetown, 9. Louisville, 10. Auburn, 11. Kentucky, 12. Notre Dame, 13. Oklahoma, 14. LSU, 15. Memphis State, 16. Alabama Birmingham, 17. North Carolina State, 18. Nevada Las Vegas, 19. (tie) Maryland and Navy.
