Cultural Center Site Narrows to 2 Choices

Apanel studying seven potential sites for a cultural center in Thousand Oaks will recommend two today, Frances Prince, chairwoman of the Cultural Center Planning Committee, said Friday.

The two sites chosen by a subcommittee are a parking lot east of The Oaks Mall and a driving range at the city-owned Los Robles Golf Course, Prince said. The sites were judged on such criteria as how the center would affect traffic patterns, potential for expansion, acreage and proximity to hotels, shops and other businesses.

Prince said the full committee will review the subcommittee’s choices at 9 a.m. today at City Hall but may delay its decision on what to recommend to the City Council, which will have the final say.

Construction of the center is not expected to begin until 1987 or 1988, Prince said.
