Assessing Quake Safety

I agree with Sam Hall Kaplan’s article (Nov. 3) about the seismic safety of some Los Angeles buildings. The article was very informative as it gave reasons why people would want to demolish these structures. Obviously, the cost to repair the buildings is the main reason.

Articles such as these which look at the issue from different angles allow the public to be better informed. Many people fail to look at historic significance as a reason to save a building. Most of us just look at cost.

If the people are kept well informed on these types of issues, hopefully more people will voice their opinions and maybe make a difference in whether these buildings get torn down or stay up.
