Buena Park : 7-Year Council Veteran to Serve Again as Mayor

Les Reese, a City Council member since 1978, has been selected mayor by his colleagues, replacing nine-year council member James Jarrell, who is retiring.

Reese, an engineer for the state Department of Transportation who served as mayor once before, from 1980 to 1981, was chosen Monday night after swearing-in ceremonies for newly elected council members at City Hall.

Don Griffin, a self-employed architect who was appointed mayor pro tem after the death of Jess Davis, was reappointed to that position. A councilman since 1974, Griffin was mayor in 1975-76, 1979-80 and 1980-81.

Newcomers Donna L. Chessen and Rhonda J. McCune and veteran Councilman Kenneth B. Jones were sworn in as council members. The three emerged as victors in a crowded field of 14 in the Nov. 5 election.
