Laguna Beach : Council Elects Mayor on Unanimous Vote

Share

Martha Collison, a Realtor and 17-year city resident, was elected mayor by a unanimous vote of the City Council on Tuesday night.

Collison, 51, a vice president of a Laguna Beach real estate firm, was elected to the council in April, 1984, and was the only one of five council members who had not yet served a term as mayor. The yearlong terms are usually rotated among council members.

Cleaning up the city, making Laguna Canyon Road safer and maintaining the greenbelt are at the top of the new mayor’s list of priorities. “I also want to improve the lines of communication between the citizens and city hall,” she said.

As mayor pro tem, Collison has held open office hours on Fridays before council meetings, and she said she would “encourage that kind of thing” as mayor.

Collison replaces Councilwoman Bobbie Minkin. The council elected Neil Fitzpatrick mayor pro tem.
