Long Beach
The Long Beach City Council has ordered personnel officials to compile a report detailing what efforts have been taken to ensure that female employees are being paid the same as their male counterparts in comparable jobs.
The council voted 5-2 to have the report compiled after several representatives of local women’s groups called for a study of the status of “pay equity” in Long Beach.
Under the directive, the report must be completed in time for the council’s Dec. 17 meeting. Council members Eunice Sato and Warren Harwood opposed the move, indicating that the Personnel Department should be given more time to complete the report.
