Fur Is Back With Flair on Ready-to-Wear

Share

If you’ve dreamed of flaunting a big, luxurious ostentatious fur, this may be the year for it. The be-furred look is turning up even in ready-to-wear, with dresses, sweaters, coats, jackets and even jeans trimmed in mink, lynx, beaver, chinchilla, coyote and sable.

At Somper Fur Couture’s recent show on Rodeo Drive, the big, oversize coat, with full body, dolman sleeves and enormous collar was a basic look, along with hooded styles and lots of horizontally worked sleeves.

Combination and reversible coats, such as cashmere and mink or leather and coyote, were also prevalent. But in contrast to past seasons, where the fur was worn discreetly on the inside of a fabric coat, to connote quiet wealth, the idea now seems to be: If you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Says Somper vice president Jeffrey Lehman: “Russian Lynx is very hot this year. It used to be Russian sable, but lynx has taken over.”
