Resort Commuter airline said it will begin service to Los Angeles International Airport from John Wayne Airport on January 15.

The Santa Ana-based carrier currently operates three twin-engine Cessnas between Orange County, Santa Catalina Island and Palm Springs.

Initially, Resort Commuter said, it will operate six flights daily between Orange County and Los Angeles International. The air carrier expects to purchase “at least two more” aircraft, said Robert Frost, president and founder of the 2-year-old airline. Frost said the airline will have counter space at the Republic Airlines terminal at Los Angeles International.

Resort Commuter already has signed interline agreements with Pan American, Republic and several other major carriers. Frost said joint fares are being negotiated. An interline agreement enables one airline to write tickets for another.

Resort was called Catalina Commuter until November 1984, when it changed its name. Service to Palm Springs began in March.

Frost said the carrier plans to expand service to San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico, by the middle of next year.
